Machine design continues improving!

Sun-Tec, we have 13 machine -designers in house.
So we do whole process of building machine in house basically.
Our machine-designers are developing ideas day to day to achieve and certified our customers demand and more.

Today, we had a interview with one of our machine-designer, K-san.
He has been working at Sun-Tec for 9 years.

Drawing with 3D CAD / Discussion at office

Q. What is the best part of machine design at Sun-Tec ?
It is that producing something from Zero.
There are various design-works out there.
For example, car design, most of car designers draw only a part of car as I heard.
However, we are drawing a whole of machine from zero by one designer basically at Sun-Tec.
I think this is the best part as machine-designer.

Q. Recently Sun-Tec has introduced 3D-CAD system and you leaded the project.
What are benefits of 3D CAD drawing?

The benefits of 3D-CAD drawing are;

1.It is easy to have a final assembled image so it works for good-balanced machine(part) design.

2.There is a function of "Interference check". You can find interference between part to part easily.

3.Once you get used to 3D system, the drawing time becomes shorter than using 2D-CAD. And it makes less mistakes.

4.3D-picture allows anyone to image the assembling easily.

Q. It is well known in the company that K san has a lot of hobbies. What is the most favorite hobby currently.

I have been enjoying fishing and motor bicycle since teenager.
What I am enjoying most right now is bicycle and tennis.
I have experienced both in my twenties yet I have been working out and lost some weight.
It made me some motivation to start them again.
I feel my thought becomes wider so that I can communicate various people through the hobbies.

Q.Do you want to challenge something in your life and/or work?

I would like to participate some competition or race and want to feel the special sense of tension again.
I am now looking for which game I could challenge.

test-running own designed machine / K san with H san at design room

We also interviewed with his boss of design dept manager.

Q. What is the impression of K san ?

He has had some unique color since he entered Sun-Tec which we did not have before .
He keeps developing his personality on good way still now.
I hope he will organizes the department and aim to make more high quality machines from now on.

Q.What do you expect from member of the design department?

Sometime people say that "Challenge it without fear of failure".
However, I believe that you should not fail.
You have to prepare day to day and think through how you can achieve it without fail.
I hope we take a step further than the current world!

--

K san brings into company good influence so that he is always challenging some targets in work as well as private.
We hope he leads us to make "a step further" machines.

Sun-Tec keeps progress everyday with skill s of our designer team such as K san !

October in Arizona

It’s October and it is one of my favorite times of year in Arizona.
The weather is starting to become cooler and it is great for outdoor activities such as gardening and hiking in the desert areas (two of my favorite activities).
I live in the city of Peoria which is north and west of Phoenix. About a year ago Peoria opened a new hiking trail about 8 Km from my house. It is easy to get to and very well maintained. The trail is set up in three sections, the shortest being less than 2 Km long and the longest is almost 5 Km long. This allows people with various hiking experience to enjoy the trail and choose how long they want to hike. I like to do the entire 5 Km length. The further you go along the trail the fewer people you meet and you can easily forget that you are so close to the city.

trail head and red tailed hawk

Also, since it is so close to the edge of the city and there are fewer houses, there is a good chance to see various desert wildlife. So far, I have seen a fox, coyotes, jackrabbits and many types of birds including the red tailed hawk shown in the picture. It was so peaceful to watch him as rode the rising air currents fromthe desert floor below him. I have also been told by other hikers I have met that they have seen burros and deer in the area during the late fall to early spring.
The other benefit I get from having a hiking trail so close is that I can get in good physical condition for other hikes I am planning for the coming months.
I am planning on going to the Superstition Mountains East of Phoenix and the Saguaro National Monument near Tucson where my daughter lives.

Story about TMS-SA

Today, I am introducing a machine which is like son of Sun-Tec America.
The machine is a film lamination machine (model :TMS-SA).

It has been about 5 years since we set up a office in Arizona and 7 years since we participated SID show first time.

When we had a booth at SID show first time, our high capacity and efficiency machines could not get much interest from American customers.
One of the reason is that there are few mass-production display manufacture companies especially in the United States. Yet there are many R&D or technology development sections.
Then, Mr. M.C. , an American sales reprehensive of us proposed that customers here might need basic and minimum efficiency lamination machines.
So we changed plan and started to develop a simple lamination machine.
We had discussions with engineers and we decided even the reversal table drive can change to manual handle and automatic drive can be option.
So we built a very simple & basic lamination machine and stated additional capabilities are all option.
Actually I felt a little doubt because we had been aimed for providing high capacity and efficiency machines but we now returned to basic technology.
However, In the United States, you can see from automobile advertisements appeal very low price in front and each customer's demand features are option.
Eventually, the idea is worked well! The machine has been installed in R&Ds, high-mix low-volume manufacturing companies and repair manufacture etc..

I learned that customer's demands are really various. Some customer needs full-option but the other customer wants only basic machine.
What we need is providing a machine fulfill the customer's demand and need. And the customer's satisfaction is key to success for us.
In these days, we have been producing TMS-SA series like TMS-SA-CE for Europe region, TMS-SA-P1 for rigid panel to rigid panel lamination and etc...

TMS-SA has been brought in not only the United States and Europe but Asia now. The machine is getting used in all over the world.

Therefore , TMS-SA is son of Sun-Tec America and he is very devoted son!
We will keep providing good machine for fulfill customer's need for all over the world form here .

Kishiwada Danjiri festival

I went to watch the Kishiwada Danjiri festival again this year.

Before I visited the festival actually, I only had watched the Danjiri (float) be pulled around the city at terrific speed by fearless men on TV.

Five years ago, one of my associate took me to the festival. Since then, I have been so interested the float's beautiful carvings and the drum music and some traditional noisemakers rhythm so
I keep visiting the festival every year even by myself.

Danjiri float

The men turn the Danjiri corners almost 90 degrees with timing signals from Taiko (a Japanese drum) or traditional noisemaker.
The techniques are magnificence and very deep.

Danjiri festival

I guess the Taiko rhythms are for Damjiri run speeds.
I have not understood well yet but I think there are 4 type of rhythms.

1) Most rapid rhythm (= (Danjiri) run )
2) Middle rhythm(= gallop)
3) Slow rhythm(= walk )
4) Very slow rhythm (= stop or most slow walk)

I am always moved people pulling the float while chanting "Sooorya, Soorya" lively all together.
If you have chance, please visit there September 14 and 15 (same date on every year).
It is more wonderful than you just watch it on TV.

I am now really enchanted by carving arts on the Danjiri.

Go for a fishy sales rep !

We have sales bases in Hyogo (near Osaka), Tokyo and Arizona and 13 sales reps are working .
They are working to spread Sun-Tec's technologies and machines across Japan and world every day.

Today, we had a interview with M-san who has been working Sun-Tec Tokyo for 4 years .
He is a cheerful guy !

discussion & with machine

Q : It will be your 5th year in Sun-Tec in this October. What are you practicing to be a good sales rep ?

M-san A: All customers have different request, spec, solutions. Sales rep has to organize what we can do best for each customer clearly and quickly.
And then, there are 3 pillars for proposal. (I was taught from my senior associates!)
"Specification", "Price" and " Lead time".
When we can fix those 3 contents clearly with customer, the project would have a good goal..
This is of course a basic rule. Yet if even one element is not clear or almost impossible etc...it would give the customer some trouble...

Sales rep is a company's window !
I will try my best for proposing best solution for our customers.

Q: You have been going a lot of business travel. Which place is most memorable so far?

M-san A: It may be Sapporo, Hokkaido. I went there with my boss in my first year of Sun-tec.
It was December and I fall down into frozen road many times!
And we ate very delicious mutton barbecue with our customer. I hope I have another chance to visit there someday again!

Checking docs

Q: You are a very famous "Maniac gamer" in Sun-tec. What is your most favorite game in this moment.

M-san A : I am enjoying "Bionic Commando" for PS3.
I am racing around battlefield in internet every night.

Q: You read books a lot too ! What is your most impressive book recently?

M-san A: I was really impressed with "Hagetaka" ( = Vulture)
It is a gripping narration of the dramatic development corporate buyout.
I was so excited with Wasizu (the main character)'s bold and delicate judgments.

Q: What is your goals for work and life?

As a sales rep, I want to achieve my sales target every month.
I think I should not chase only target. I believe (and hope) result will came later if I try my best every day.
My life target is that I want to have many children!

::Message from his boss::
When I was at M-san's age, I was holding a compressor one hand and driving car with the other hand and went sales anywhere all the time!
M-san is also active and unhesitating to travel anywhere so I believe he has some talent for being a sales rep.
My image of him is a fish.
I hope he is swimming mighty ocean and swallow a lot plankton even with sea water like Tuna, Bonito or Sardine.
They will die when stop swimming!

We cannot deliver our technology or machine without Sales rep's activities.
We all hope Sun-Tec's machines are used across world more and more by them.

Our energetic sales reps like M-san are looking for your trouble for " Lamination, labeling or taping".
Please feel free to contact us.

Japanese culture club in Arizona

It has been 12 years since I left Japan and moved to Arizona.
Even before I moved to Arizona, I was asked some questions about Japan
by foreigners and embarrassingly I could not answer their questions sometime.
I have never done anything involved with Japanese culture in the past,
however, a friend of mine asked me to be a part of the Japanese
Culture Club of Arizona which is a non-profit organization to
introduce Japanese culture to people in Arizona.
The club's board is comprised of six Japanese women ages from 30th to
80th with a lot of energy.
Hatsugama

Our official activity started this year.
For new year, we held "Hatsugama" which is a new year's tea ceremony.
All the members wore Kimono and welcomed guests.
I wore Kimono only twice in Japan, and never imagined that I wore
Kimono in Arizona!
The event could not be as authentic as the one in Japan, however, the
guests enjoyed the tea ceremony very much.

In the spring, we held an "Origami" seminar.
We explained the history of Origami, taught how to fold Japanese
dolls, and made chopsticks holders, bookmarks, and greeting cards with them.
Origami & Roka Akor

The summer event was a Japanese Cooking class.
The event was held at Robatayaki restaurant and it was very successful.
Robatayaki means grilling meat, seafood, and vegetables with charcoals.
These several years, Japanese food has been very popular in Arizona
and American people like to BBQ outside.
Because of those reasons, we think that the cooking class was
successful and people enjoyed it.

The fall event will be a tea ceremony at Raku Festival in Chandler.
Guests can enjoy tea and sweets, and take a tea bowl home!
At this festival, there will be a Japanese Taiko drum performance, too.

Ikebana flower arrangement demonstration, Kimono fashion show, Bonsai
class, etc... there are so many plans ahead.
By introducing Japanese culture to people in Arizona, I am actually
learning about Japanese culture also.
Maybe because I do not live in Japan, I feel like I want to be close
to Japanese culture more.

An e-engineer N-san's challenge

E-engineer (Electrical engineer ) job at Sun-tec are ;
-Design for electrical hardware
-Order electrical parts
-Design for electrical software (sequencer , operation panel etc..)
-Wiring etc...

lean from seniors

N-san is an electrical engineer in Sendai factory and It has been3 years since she joined Sun-Tec.
In this year, she designed and completed a machine software with her name. It was first time for her.

We interviewed her a little ..........

working hard
■ Why you became an electrical engineer?
I studied electrical and electronics at college and I wanted to participate in manufacturing work.

■ Where are you enjoying in the work?
I can see many kinds of machines from labeling machine to large lamination machine etc in the factory.

■ How did you feel after you completed a software design ?
I had to spend a lot of time..
I have to image machine motion based on the specification and design software but when I realized my imagination and actual machine motion is not match, I leaned my skill is not enough ..
I still need a lot of help and advice from my senior associates however when I find out some solution by myself, I feel something good that I cannot describe well...

■ What is your goal?
I still need a lot of help and advice from my senior associates so I would like to learn skills more from each machine manufacturing process..and want to build own confidence.

We asked Sendai factory manager impression of her.

■From Factory manager
It has been passed 3 years since she joined company . I see that she is getting used to work environment.
I think she was confusing that she could not use her knowledge from school for actual work for the first period of time.
However, she is now trying to lean and deal each machine step by step in her own way.
She has to learn more and more but I hope she could increase her experience in work and keep trying.

She has been growing up with challenging.
We are hoping that one day her techniques and ideas become a new approach for SUN-TEC and then we could make more good machine for customer's satisfaction.

Sun-Tec's technology is growing up with such engineers!

From Arizona

Hello everyone,

This blog has been sent from Arizona in America.
Arizona is known as Desert and most of people understand the Desert is with a lots of Sands, like Sahara desert, and Kobi Desert.
But, Arizona Desert is not with the Sands, but a lots of trees, plants and flowers.

Flowers

I have lived in Arizona for 30 + years now, and I am happy to show some pictures here to show what kind of trees and flowers we have in Arizona.
First, we have a lot of Cacti, such as Saguaro (pronounced as Soo-Ha-Ro) Cactus, Ocotillo (pronounced as O-Ko-Tee-Yo) Cactus and etc.
Most of flowers are blooming in May to June, and the flowers with large wings usually opens in the evening and closes when the sun rises.
This is to prevent from losing precious water they have during hot daytime.

With these pictures, I have also added a few pictures of Grand Canyon, an Owl, a sunrise scene, and a rainbow.
Grand Canyon
Video from Arizona : >> http://www.sun-tec.net/blog/img/090903_03.wmv
(Note: this movie is a little heavy to load)

As you can see, Deserts are beautiful even we have very very hot simmer.
The temperature can be as high as 46 deg. C, with around 10 percent relative humidity.
Therefore we can say these trees and plants are living in Dry and Hot Sauna Bathroom.

Be well and Happy!

YUI chan

Hello. I am M from material department in head quarter and now taking a child-care leave.

The picture above, She is our therapeutic small girl Yui. She has just became 7months old now.
Her recent special skills are roll-over and slow method of progression!
She has now moved around all over the house so I cannot take my eyes off from her otherwise she gets down everything in the room...
She grows up every day by day and that makes me move... I am spending very busy days but I am enjoying.

BTW...

We visited "Trick art exhibit".
I am usually not interested in paintings but those trick paintings in this exhibition were really exciting.
Some paintings looked as they were floating.
There were many visitors and it was very hard to take pictures...but I did some so please take a look.

A day of ST young engineer

Sun-tec has 2 factories in Japan.
One is Head quarter factory in Hyogo pref which produces small/ medium machines mainly.
The other one is Sendai factory in Kagoshima pref which produces large film lamination machine mainly.
Today we introduce one of our young engineers S-kun belong to our head quarter factory and a day of his work.

One day in July...
He usually goes out for machine installation and /or maintenance services but he stayed in the factory the day.

8:30 came to factory
8:50 Radio excise and morning meeting with all employee in the head quarter office and factory.
9:00 started work in the factory

Today, he would do pipe arrangement and attaching adjustment for a machine.
The machine cuts double faced tape specified length and applies it on the specified position on the products automatically.

He was arranging pipes into machine with pneumatic drawing.. Imaging machine movement is very important for this work.
After pipe arrangement was completed, install electrical software and check pipe connection, no air leak and machine movement.

12:00 Lunch break
Recently he is challenging jump-rope every day after eating lunch.

12:45 back to work

Start attaching motion adjustment
This machine allow to register several recipes for attachment position and tape length.
The important point for the job is that stable direct advance, complete adhesion, no wrinkle, position accuracy, correct length and TACT etc...everything needs to meet the specification.

He operated machine and runs tape and adjust repeatedly... and he made the machine performance as specification.

He said the important points of adjustments for this machine were that the cutter setting and initial attaching position of the tape and also attaching roller force.

16:00 Preparation for maintenance parts for shipment. Some parts need to assemble before ship .
He checks quantity and model carefully and pack them before 5 pm of pickup service.
We asked him some questions at the end.
18:00 cleaned up the work area and left work.

Q1 . What is most difficult work for you at this stands.

How to meet customer's demand and specification with appropriate techniques and services in our field.
There must be more room for improvement.
It is like positions for sensors and/or parts and adjustment for timer and / or blow etc..
I have to lean more accuracy and expeditious way to do from experiences.

Q2.Do you have any target in the work?

I am the youngest engineer in the head quarter factory so I am still supported with senior associates.
I want to acquire more experiences and study and to become more trust engineer.

Firstly ,I am going to participate more actively in the current project of new type labeler development and also ISO propulsion project.
And I would like to lean bigger machines assembly and adjustment techniques at the Sendai factory.
And also I want to get crane and forklift licenses.
I think I need to study some English for future business trip to oversee too.

Such engineer like him support SUN-TEC technology !

A Guitar Lover In Japan

Let me introduce my hobbies !

I will show you my guitar collections ! I have been playing the guitar since junior high student.
This article could be a little maniac information for some people but please read!

Why I started playing the guitar is that I practiced in the music class at junior high school. Then I was really interested about guitars so I asked my father to buy an electric guitar. I don't have the guitar anymore though...

Please look my precious guitar collections.

Guiter collection

I will explain from the left one.

■MG-85X
I am a fun of X JAPAN and my most favorite man is HIDE.
When I was high school student I wanted to close to him so I decided to buy this HIDE model.
I did some part- time job and bought this guitar. This is my first guitar with my own money. 86,000 yen.
Actually I wanted to buy higher class one but it was over 100,000 yen ... so I gave up. 3 of classmate have same model. This is the most memorized guitar for me.

■Jazzmaster
I bought this from a friend by 30,000 yen.
This is best when playing codes! Each string sounds really well.
Because this is a long scale and my hands is small, I do not play this easily. When I press the chords, extra power is needed.

■Unknown model
I found this one a used musical instrument store.
A guitar which HIDE bought first time of his life was similar as this guitar shape so I decided to buy quickly when I found it.
It was about 90,000 yen. This guitar has not much power so I am planning to modify.

■MG-115C
I found this one at internet auction and bought it on impulse! 40,000 yen.
The body is made by acrylic so it is very heavy. This guitar did great play at a wedding reception. This is also HIDE model.

■360FG
This manufacture " Rickenbacker" is very famous that the beetles used their guitar.
This is most expensive guitar in my collection . it was about 200,000 yen.
The trigger to buy this guitar was I became a fan for ACIDMAN 6years ago and then I bought this guitar 4 years ago.
At the time when I bought it, this guitar was very popular so I had to wait for 6 months. Yet I was lucky because some people have to wait more than one year.
This guitar has semi-acrostic body and extra thick neck so it is very difficult to play but sounds unique tone.

■TL-71
I bought this one in this year.
A Japanese band " Ling tosite sigure"- I saw the band's guitar vocal "TK" is using a telecast and I liked the sounds very much. And also I remember when I played my friend's telecast before, it was easy to play and I really loved the sounds. So I bought it.(This one and TK's telecast are different manufacture though)
This guitar can play the field and I feel very good when I am playing. It was 60,000 yen but I feel it is cheap with this quality !

Recently a friend took me a bar in Kagoshima city.
The bar was wonderful. You can drink alcohol and also play music instruments in the bar! The bar owner asked me to play something so I and a middle-age man who was also drinking at the counter played "CROSS ROADS" (Eric Clapton)together. (He played drums btw)
Drinking with playing music are fantastic! I only had some coke at that night though.

Thank you, See you all next time!

Home garden vegetable - From SUN-TEC Japan

I wrote in this blog (JPN site) on May that I planted tomatoes and cucumber in my kitchen garden .

5/11 blog http://suntecweb.blog22.fc2.com/blog-date-20090511.html

Time has passed very fast and the tomatoes and the cucumbers have grown very well. We can pick them from this month.

Every year bulbuls (birds) pick tomatoes before us so we are protecting them with net this year.
I secretly think the freshly-picked tomato taste is the best in the world!

In this season, those fresh vegetables line up on the table every day .
I am feeling peace and happy to eat them with family.

The round things on the biggest plate are a kind of SUSHI. They are made of vinegar rice with
some cooked chopped vegetable and surrounded by bamboo shoot. It is a country dishes of Kagoshima.

FIREFLY - From SUN-TEC JAPAN

As summer approaches in Kagoshima (Japan), it grows hotter and hotter.

The other day my oldest daughter came back home and said to us, "There are many many Fireflies !!!!". My wife, second daughter and I all immediately stopped dinner and went out to see for ourselves. We travelled by car and could not find any in the beginning. We turned off the lights first and waited for a while then we discovered an incredible number of fireflies all around us, and watched them blinking!

In the distance, the array of fireflies actually brightened the night sky. It was like something out of a movie. I tried to capture the view on camera, taking photos hurriedly, but was disappointed as they were only small dots of light in the picture.

Anyway, this was my first time to witness such a vast spectacle of fireflies. I had not tried to see them before, but I have a feeling that the number of fireflies are increasing.
I was so moved by the first day and went back to try and take better photoes.

The next day, I went back to try and take better photos.
When I tried to get close to them, they stopped flying and waited on the grass and in the trees. I waited almost half an hour, patiently, but they were not flying again. They rested and only blinked sometimes.

I wondered, "Is it because I was there or perhaps it was not hot as the day before?".
I could see their brightness over there, yet even extending the shutter to 15seconds I could not capture it well.
Finally, at the third attempt, I succeeded in capturing the spectacle!
I hope you can enjoy with this photo!!

SID DISPLAY WEEK is recognized as the electronic-display industry's biggest annual event.
Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition related of display industry will be held for a week.
SUN-TEC will have a booth at the Exhibition and the Exhibition will open 3 days from tomorrow.

We built our booth by ourselves. We have been using a exhibition set from a company called "Skyline" .this is really easy to built.
Step 1-2: Open very compact bones.
Step 3: Mount magnet plates, back sheets and lightings.
and display promotional panels on the back sheet and then the booth is completed!

And we set up the machines which travel from Japan by vessel...long journey.
We have done the machine operations as well so we are ready to welcome visitors for tomorrow!!

Sun-tec will display 2 machines this year.
One is TMS-SA - A standard film lamination machine for middle size and
another one is TMS-S3 for small size display.
We also display some panels describing our full automated machines for roll/sheet film lamination machine (roll to roll, sheet to sheet, roll to sheet etc)
We are expecting to show our latest technology to many visitors.

We are waiting for your visiting!!

We can do it!
