Display Weeks 2017 Los Angeles – “Almost Heaven”

Los Angeles is Spanish for "The Angels". Because of that, the city is often referred to as “The City of Angels”. This year was the first time back in The City of Angels for the Display Week Show since 2011. A special session focusing on automotive displays was added this year, which brought some new exhibitors. This product shows how the rearview mirror can be used as a display for a rear mounted camera to not only show what is happening behind your car, but a second smaller insert display provides other useful information to the driver at the same time.
Of course the traditional display applications were being shown as well. The ultra-thin “Wall Paper OLED TV” was very impressive to see. When the TV is mounted, it almost looks like a picture hanging on the wall.

There were less curved displays this year compared with the previous years, but some exhibitors showed them for gaming and digital signage applications. Overall, there was a lot of energy at the show, and we could meet some old and new customers there.

The big highlight of Display Week for me personally was the location. The LA Convention Center is located next to the Staple Center Arena. The Staple Center is the home of the Los Angeles NBA professional basketball team, the Lakers. I have been a Lakers fan for over 40 years, which may be odd since I grew up in Pennsylvania not California. It was very cool to see the life size statues of former Laker great players in front of the Staple Center every morning as we entered the Display Week Show.

It was “almost heaven in the City of Angles” for me all week!
